Computer Terms: What Is "Social Engineering"?


Day by day, social engineering is becoming bigger and bigger phenomena on the Internet all over the world. Social engineering is to steal information, which is important such as ID, password, personal information, and credit card number by social ways. For instance, someone may ask you important password to access your company by call as your boss. Moreover, there is the way called Phising which tricks you to get your personal information on a mail or webpage that copy the original mail or webpage of companies. Security education can prevent these problems. However, there is direct way to seal information. For example, it may be possible that someone can get the very secret information by looking through shredder dust. There is new service by Yamato Transport Co., Ltd. They collect disposal documents and dissolve them, so no one can steal information. It costs just 1,800 yen each corrugated cardboard. We always check new information to protect ourselves.
